A group of armed robbers attacked students of Osun State University in Ikire campus. It is a black Saturday in Ikire when the Armed men bulged into three hostels in different hostels of Ikire. The hostels are Civilian Barrack, Hollywood and an unnamed hostel adjacent to Hangover hostel.

Civilian Barrack Hostel
The robbery was staged on July 7, 2018 and started around 2a.m. we got details about the scenes to gather information about the sad incidents.
While he was speaking with one of the victims in Civilian Barrack Hostel, she told our correspondent that the Armed robbers entered around 2a.m with guns and cutlases.
“They opened our burglary like a door. They beat Alfa and matcheted the security guard of our hostel. It was a great shock for us. They robbed over four rooms in our hostel and they carted away phones, laptops and money”; she lamented.
Civilian Barrack
It was gathered that the security guard in Civilian Barracks who is nicknamed Baba CB had a rough encounter with the robbers. Baba CB was beaten and matcheted with Cutlass. His head was cut with cutlass.we were unable to reach the man because of his critical condition in the hospital that remains unrevealed to public.
Another male victim who claims anonymous narrated his ordeal with the robbers. He said that he came outside and shockingly met the robbers. He said he cooperated with them and they locked him inside the gateman room which was firstly robbed. Students who stay in the same street said they were startled when they heard the sounds of gun that sounded like bomb.
Following this robbery,we got to the second scene which is Hollywood hostel. The Armed robbers removed the buglary with big block. They shot the hostel GYM instructor on his leg. The gym instructor whom they said is not a student of UNIOSUN, survived the attack and currently undergoing treatments.
Hollywood Hostel
“I was in the toilet when I heard someone banging my door around 3a.m. They broke my buglary and entered to open the door for other armed robbers. One of the robbers entered the toilet and collected my phone. He requested for my password. They carted away our phones and laptops. But we thank God our life is intact.” – she narrated.
Hollywood hostel
A 200level student identified as Sola showed us the marks of the cutlass on his stomach. He said he left a concert around 3a.m and he got to his hostel at Mateba area. He was in the room when the robbers entered and started smashing him with cutlass but graciously and suprisingly to him, the cutlass did not enter him but rather left him marks.
“They collected my three smartphones and went away with a fifteen thousand naira that I withdrew yesterday. ” – Sola added.

The atmospheric situation in Ikire at the present moment has therefore become tensed as students keep lamenting over the robbery issues

A total of 54 students graduated with first class degree certificates in the 2016/2017 academic session of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, made the disclosure, on Monday, in his office during the press conference to herald activities lined up this week to mark the 12th Convocation Ceremony of the University.

Ahaneku also disclosed that a total of 7731 graduands will be taking part in the convocation ceremony with a breakdown showing that 6641 graduands are for first degrees, 190 for Post Graduate Diplomas, 674 for Masters of Science degrees and 227 for Doctorate degrees.

He disclosed that the 12th Convocation of the University is the third in his administration aimed at maintaining the core values and real tradition of university tradition where students are admitted and also graduated annually.

“What this means is that we have started the core values and real tradition of the University system. Before this time, many Universities have backlog of years without convocation but those of us who are managers of Universities converged in Keffi, Nassarawa State, in 2011 and resolved that as we admit students into the university system, we hold orientation and matriculation for them and as the students graduate, we also organize the graduation ceremony known as Convocation.

“That is the joy and beauty of mentorship and the essence of being in the university because there should be a distinction between a student that graduates and those who don’t,” he said…

Disagreement over how to share millions given to the Students Union Government leaders of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has resulted in a serious fight.

Two people have been injured in a fight that ensued between Students Union Government leaders of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday.

The Vice President of the union, Miss Jacob Tosin who allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed the Social Director, Adedayo Emmanuel, in the arm was on Tuesday beaten mercilessly when a fight ensued between Students Union Government leaders of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday.

It was learnt that Tosin, who also received a headB.utt from Emmanuel, had been admitted to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife. PUNCH Metro gathered that the fight started when a meeting was held on how to spend a sum of N3.8m released to the union by the university management.

The student leaders had earlier been accused of misappropriation when they used a previous disbursement of N3m in June to purchase a bus. Though the union executive members said the bus was purchased for N2.5m, students of the institution insisted that the bus was bought for N900,000.

During the Tuesday meeting, one of the leaders told PUNCH Metro that the union’s President, Ibukun Edward, asked other executive members for a project that could be financed with the N3.8m.

While the president reportedly suggested the construction of a relaxation centre for the students, the Public Relations Officer, Simon Okediji, reportedly pushed for a library. The Welfare Director, Ajiboye Adekanmi, was said to have asked that a staircase to a major lecture theatre be constructed, among others.

The VP, popularly called Emerald, was said to have proposed that freshmen’s packages should be sponsored with part of the money. Her plan was allegedly rejected.

According to the executive member, who did not want to be named, Emerald flared up and attempted to leave the meeting, but was persuaded to stay till the end.

He said, “She proposed N1.4m for the freshmen’s packages. We told her that when we get the dues for this session, we would look into her suggestion. She flared up and was about leaving the meeting when Lamba (Emmanuel) jokingly told her not to leave and stood on her way. She slapped him twice and held his shirt.

“We separated them and continued with the meeting, but the VP was still angry. After a while, we just saw her rushing to open the refrigerator of the president; she was looking for a bottle. We thought it was a joke and someone pointed her attention to an empty bottle; she smashed it on the table. When the bottle didn’t break, she smashed it on the floor and took a part of the broken bottle, charged at Lamba and stabbed him in the arm. While we struggled to collect the bottle, Lamba also headB.utted her.”

However, the PRO of the OAU SUG confirmed the incident.

He said, “What happened is not something we can keep elaborating on. The breaking of a bottle occurred in a meeting held inside the president’s office is not an issue for public consumption and it has been resolved. Even at home and at the federal level, we have misunderstanding. So, we had one here and it has been settled. This is a human setting and anybody can pick an offence.”

Also, the Head of OAU, Students Affairs Division, Prof. Isiaka Aransi, confirmed that N3.8m was released to the union leaders.

“The money has been disbursed. It is their money and it was approved for disbursement,” he added.

According to the Union “It is in view of these appaling situations that the union is constrained to embark on this total strike action as aforesaid and demand as follows:

“Payments of our 16 months CONPOCASS arrears by the management of the Institution effective from July 2009 (It should be noted that all sister institutions within the state has been paid this arrears aside RUGIPO);

“Payments of 10 months unpaid staff salaries for the months of June 2016 to January 2017 as well as July and August 2017;

“Payments of 2015 and 2016 promotion arrears;

“Total compliance with court order in respect of ASUP members that suffered political persecution from the former administration through non payment of their outstanding salaries of reinstated acedemic staff “.

Besides, the Union lamented the decaying infrastructures, abandonment of ongoing projects, inadequate lecture rooms, acute shortage of accommodation and non availability of seats in the lecture rooms.

“We have a situation where students have to remain on their feet during lectures.

“As a matter of fact, the situation becomes more worrisome during examinations when students virtually sit on themselves” the Union disclosed.

Ijawoye explained that despite owing 10 months salaries arrears, the institution has embarked in surreptitious employment.

He alleged that within the 14 days, over 50 persons have been employed under the guise that it was done on the instruction of Governor Akeredolu.

He said “In recent times, in spite of the much touted lean resources, the institution has embarked on surreptitious employment.

“It is on record that within the past 14 days, over 50 persons have been employed under the guise that it was done on the instruction of Mr. Governor

“This therefore is suggestive of deliberate financial strangulation and misrepresentation of the true financial position of the institution by the management “.

The Union also raised the alarm over the possibility of deaccrediting all the programmes being offered by the Polytechnics.

“As it stands, all programmes being offered by the polytechnic are due for accreditation and are under the threat of being deaccredited due apparently to deliberate starvation of funds,” the Union lamented.
